Thai Dances
Classical Thai dance /”Khon”/ is based on religion and ancient mythological stories. The performances are very spectacular and interesting. The dancers play series of dances without speaking, the speech is coming from people behind the scene. The Thai dancers wear amazing costumes, hats and masks. Each mask represents different character. The dance costumes are rich in color and style and vary from region to region.
The characters played in the Thai dances are demons, humans, monkeys and celestial beings. The scenes are influenced by the Indian Ramayana. The atmosphere of the story is implied by different movements of the dancers.
