Chulalonghorn Day
Chulalonghorn Day /also known as Rama V Day or Piyamaharaj Day/ is celebrated on 23th October and the date is fixed. The Chulalonghorn day marks the death of the most revered king in Thailand. King Chulalonghorn was born on 20th September 1853. He reigned for 42 years and gave a lot for the Thais – expanded the railway system, improved communications throughout the country by making postal and telegraph services possible, forbade the slavery, improved health and educational systems and many more.
During King Rama V reign Thailand became modern country. Thanks to him Thailand remained independent although it lost some territory. King Chulalonghorn has unique concepts over the improvement of Thailand governing body. His picture can be found in every house as a symbol of luck and prosperity.
