It is customary to tip porters, taxi drivers and good personal service. In restaurants the tip is 10 – 15 %.

- Usually Thais don't shake hands when they greet one another, but instead press the palms together in a prayer-like gesture called a “wai”. Generally a younger person wais an elder, who returns it.
- Never touch people on the head, as Thais regard the head as the highest part of the body both literally and figuratively.
- Never point at something or touch someone with your foot as it is regarded as the lowest part of the body
- When entering a Thai temple where Buddha image is kept or private home always remove your shoes.
- When you are in public do not walk topless as it is regarded as impolite.
- Avoid affection like hugging and kissing in public.
- Always smile when greeting, thanking and apologizing.
- Avoid drawing attention to yourself as it is considered as rude.
- Always refer to Thai people with his/her first name.
- Dropping litter in the street is illegal – fine 2.000 Baht
- Smoking in the street is illegal – fine 2.000 Baht.
