Thailand has always had a king as leader of the nation. The idea of monarchy in Thailand has appeared in 13th century in the city of Sukhothai which was the first independent capital. The main function of the king is to be the “father” and to guide his people.The present King of Thailand, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA on 5th of December 1927. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej acceded to the Throne as Rama the IX of Thailand on the 9th of June 1946, when he was only 18 years of age. King Bhumibol Adulyadej is the first reigning Monarch under the Constitutional System. King Bhumibol of Thailand is known as the only working monarch in the world. The King of Thailand was given the title “The Great” by more than 40 million people at the elections in the nationwide poll conducted in 1985. His Majesty has the glory of understanding and helping people of different walks of life, always ready to suggest help and advice people for any kind of problems. The King of Thailand personally advises all Thai representatives who go abroad.
