Flag of Thailand
The red flag with white stripes which was the previous flag of Thailand, was used as national flag until 1917. King Rama VI, who originally used the red and white striped flag as national flag of Thailand, was suggested that a central stripe of red should be changed to blue. The reasons for the changing were that blue was the colour of the King and the red-white-blue coloured flag would remind the participation of Thailand in the World War I. The King agreed with this idea.
So, on September 28 1917 the new and the current flag of Thailand was adopted. The proprtions of the flag are 2:3 /height to width/. The name of the flag of Thailand is Triaranga or Trirong meaning tricolour. Every day at 8:00 the flag of Thailand is ceremoniously raised and lowered at 18:00 in every town and village. That is how Thai people salute the King and their country.
